Air-Fried Chips Recipe
Introduction
Air-fried chips offer a healthier, crispy alternative to traditional deep-fried fries. With just a bit of oil and an air fryer, you can enjoy perfectly golden, tender chips right at home.

Ingredients
- 4-5 large potatoes, about 1kg
- 1 tbsp sunflower or olive oil
Instructions
- Step 1: Peel the potatoes and trim away any rounded edges to create rectangular blocks for straight, neat chips. Cut these blocks into batons about halfway between thin fries and thick chips. If preferred, you can also leave the skins on and simply cut the potatoes into chips without trimming.
- Step 2: Rinse the cut chips under cold water and pat them dry thoroughly using a clean tea towel to remove excess moisture.
- Step 3: Place the chips in the bottom of the air fryer (the section with the paddle). Add the tablespoon of oil and toss the chips to coat them evenly.
- Step 4: Set the air fryer to cook for 30 minutes using the paddle. After cooking, check if the chips are tender and cooked through. If necessary, continue cooking for an additional 5 minutes.
- Step 5: Season the chips well with salt or your preferred seasoning and serve hot.
Tips & Variations
- Save the trimmed potato offcuts to make mashed potatoes or add to soups, reducing waste.
- For extra crispiness, soak the cut chips in cold water for 30 minutes before drying and cooking.
- Try tossing the chips with paprika, garlic powder, or fresh herbs after cooking for added flavor.
Storage
Store leftover chips in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat them in the air fryer for a few minutes to restore their crispness. Avoid microwaving as it can make chips soggy.

FAQs
Can I use sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes?
Yes, sweet potatoes work well in an air fryer and make delicious chips, though cooking time may need slight adjustment to ensure tenderness.
Do I need to soak the potatoes before cooking?
Soaking is optional but recommended if you want extra-crispy chips. It helps remove excess starch. Just be sure to dry them thoroughly before air frying.
